Chef Travis Petersen is a West Coast native that calls Edmonton his second home, and the birthplace of his passion for food. After relocating in his mid-twenties to pursue a career in oil and gas, Travis apprehensively applied for Masterchef Canada. Though cooking had always been a passion, he never thought it would grow past that; but once selected as one of the Top 40 to compete on one of CTV’s most viewed television shows, things started to evolve.

After studying journalism, religion, and political science, Chef Kevin Waddell decided to take a completely different career path and pursue his lifelong passion in the kitchen.

Chef Kevin was part of the opening team at the River Cree Resort & Casino in 2010, and has worked in other capital regional hotels, restaurants, and catering companies. He earned his Red Seal through NAIT’s apprenticeship training. He teaches cooking classes, and occasionally competes in culinary competitions. Chef Kevin won a silver medal at the 2015 Canadian Food Championships.

Paul Shufelt followed his mom around the kitchen as a child, but you could say his true culinary education began at 16, when he took a job as a dishwasher. After a short stint working in Montreal, Paul enrolled in the culinary apprenticeship program at NAIT, while he worked under Chef Thomas Neukom at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff. After completing the program, he traveled to Switzerland to hone his craft, working with Chef Urs Thommen at Gasthof Baren Utzenstorf.

Chef Trevor Connie, originally from Vancouver, BC, has been putting roots down in Edmonton since 2013. In 2016, Trevor—a plumber gas fitter at the time—appeared and competed on the hit CTV show Masterchef Canada and won, bringing the title of Canada’s next Masterchef back to his adopted hometown.
